These cookies are of Dutch-German tradition. The name is possibly from the German term: Schnecke Knödel which translates to “snail dumpling.” Back then, they were known for their cinnamon sugar coating and baked into a snail-like shape. The modern day Snickerdoodle cookies remain known for their cinnamon sugar coating along with other base ingredients such as flour, butter, and sugar, but now with a cracked surface. We have Patricia Anfinson aka “The Snickerdoodle Lady,” to thank for her take on the recipe that was first printed in Betty Crocker’s Picture Cookbook in the 1950s. Many of us use different variations of her family recipe to this day!
Her story is quite interesting, check it out in this article:
Snickerdoodles can have a soft or crisp texture to them, depending on the ingredient combinations used. The ingredients used at Opal’s Paradise create a soft baked cookie with a slight chewy texture. Prepared with just enough love to put a smile on your face with each bite.
The Royal Walnut:
The walnut tree dates far back to 7,000 BC, originating in Central Asia before California became the center for walnut cultivation in the 1700s. With their rich content of omega-3 fats and antioxidants, they have been said to improve brain health, prevent heart disease and cancer. For those reasons, walnuts have been considered to be “the king of nuts.” So be sure to channel your inner royal highness
as you indulge in the candied walnut cookies from Opal's paradise.
The Truth About Quinoa:
Originating from the Andean region of South America, this “pseudo-grain” is rich in antioxidants and has been known to help with cholesterol and blood sugar levels through its high fiber content. Also known to be a “superfood,” quinoa contains all nine amino acids making it a complete source of protein. Though, the healthiest way to eat quinoa would be added in a salad, it’s definitely more delicious in cookie form. The Qt Swirl cookies from Opal’s Paradise are made with quinoa flour. Eating in moderation is always recommended, so it’s a good thing they are small bite sized. If you are able to, be sure to treat yourself to these lovely delectables. Oh, and after you try them, be sure to let me know what flavor you tasted most. I enjoy hearing everyone’s opinion!
